Why this Hike
This fantastic hike around Mount Schank, a 4500 year old dormant volcano is perfect for walkers looking for something different. With plenty to see including the fascinating history of the areas geology and the panoramic views from the summit, this is a walk which is certainly worth a try.
Track Notes & Overview
Starting from the Mount Schank Picnic Site this walk follows the Mount Schank Walking Trail around the crater in an anti-clockwise direction. After walking the stretch of track between the picnic site and the crater itself you will take a right following it as it circles it. As you walk around this 4500 year old dormant volcano you will eventually reach the side track which takes you to the base of the crater. After you've visited the base of the crater you can take the short out and back track back to the main path and complete the walk back on the side track to complete the walk back at picnic site.
