Why this Hike

This accessible walk around the local landmarks of Roebourne is a great way to explore regional WA’s History. This Heritage Trail is an easy walk for all kinds of hikers and shows off the best bits of the town Roebourne; established in 1866 it is one of the oldest in the region and this walk allows you to explore the town while still getting outdoors to go for a walk.

Track Notes & Overview

Starting at the Roebourne Police Station, Goal and Court Precinct (1) on Queen Street, this self-guided walk around the local towns attractions heads past Mount Welcome Homestead (2), Hospital (3) and the Old School House (4) before taking a left at the junction with Withnell Street up to the Mount Welcome Lookout (5). From here return back past the junction to the Holy Trinity Church (6) before crossing Sholl Street and taking a left at Roe Street to see Dalgety House (7), Union Bank (8), the Old General Store (9), the Victoria Hotel (10) and the We Care Life Centre and Freddie Yee Paik’s Bakery & Store (11). To Complete the walk continue along Roe Street past the Weerianna Hostel (12), on to Andover Street to see the Roebourne Town Cemetary (13) and then left onto Fraser Street followed by a right down Sholl Street to see the Watson & Tee Store (14) and the post office (15).


An optional extension to the walk on the North West Coastal Highway is about 3km long and will take you to the Old Reserve & 2 Mile Cemetery (16), North West Jockey Club (17) and 5 Mile (Mingullatharndo) (18).
